Welcome to my running adventures!

My story of how I started running and how I came to be vegan is probably fairly typical. I started running while I was in college as a way to keep fit. However, it never really became a habit for me. Being a student, planning my wedding, and just living life kinda put all things fitness on the back burner.

But in 2009, I was facing some health issues and my doctor told me I needed to start taking my health more seriously. And at the advice of a naturopath, I went vegan (and low gluten, but that’s a story for another day). Almost immediately some of the issues I’d been having cleared up or majorly improved. I learned how to eat a balanced diet and fuel properly for living my busy life. I also learned how to make some of my old favourites (like mac and cheese or nachos) as plant-based versions. These days I’m happily living a plant-based, vegan lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean I don’t get treats. I get excited when someone is selling a good vegan donut or cupcake! Everything in moderation, right?

As for running? Well, I started (for the second time) in 2009 and signed up for my first 5k race in 2010. As they say, the rest is history! I’ve faced ups and downs, injuries and personal bests, just like anyone else out there. I probably own way too many sports bras and running shirts. My eyes light up if there is a sale on my favourite running shoes. My cupboard is full of tubes of Nuun hydration flavours and packets of gels. My husband puts up with all of this pretty patiently, even letting me plan some vacations around key races.

Anyhoo… welcome to my blog! Maybe I’ll see ya out there on the roads?
